Cats are domestic creatures by nature, but without human contact, the offspring of an abandoned pet will quickly revert to a wild or untamed state known as feral.

Although many feral cats are just a generation or two removed from domestic cats, they rarely, if ever, can become pets. They live in family groups called “colonies” near places where food and shelter can be found: behind shopping malls or restaurants, in abandoned buildings or junk yards, around barns or apartment complexes. Feral cats live an average of five harsh years before succumbing to disease, the elements, starvation, injuries or cruelty. During this time, they reproduce and the colony grows.

The most effective and humane way to break this tragic cycle is to Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) the adult cats to the colony, and to alter and domesticate as many kittens as possible. TEAM supports TNR, and feral cats in traps are welcome aboard the TEAM Mobile Feline Unit. TEAM will sterilize feral kittens as young as ten weeks of age.

TEAM has user-friendly, humane traps available for a refundable deposit and those who sponsor the spay or neuter of a feral cat may be eligible to receive a rebate through the TEAM Incentive Program.
